Research Aims
Cagliari’s research group has been working on various aspects, both synchronic and diachronic, of Specialised Languages (namely, business/finance, political-institutional, legal, news, media, tourism, academic and medical-scientific), of Translation studies and Ecostylistics. More specifically, Cagliari’s unit has been focusing on such research tools as DA, CDA, Pragmatics, Stylistics, Corpus Analysis, Systemic Functional Linguistics. The most recurrent topics are multimodality, multimediality, metadiscourse, argumentation, promotional discourse, metaphors, foregrounding and point of view, ideational, interpersonal and textual metafunctions of discourse, identity construction and perception, transparency in communication, genre conventions, both spoken and written.
Cagliari’s unit research aims at contributing to enriching the analysis and the definition of communication features in English throughout the above-mentioned fields, also thanks to the identification and improvement of corpora built for this purpose, as well as at providing useful tools for English teaching.
